Step into the colorful world of Bahamas Batik, perfect for guests looking to make something truly personal during their stay. This hands-on experience introduces you to the ancient art of batik, a wax-resist textile tradition dating back over 2,000 years. As part of your experience, you’ll be using a unique stamping process with connection to one of our sister islands, Andros.

Guided by local artisans, guests design their own batik piece, First, using our custom, hand-crafted stamps, small pieces of artwork, you’ll apply warm wax that will resist the fabric dye to create patterns. After writing your signature using a traditional tjanting tool, you’ll select vibrant dyes created by our master colorist and participate in a dying process that reveals your finished design. Along the way, you’ll learn how the stamps are
made, how hot wax is applied to create beautiful designs and how color is absorbed into fabric.

Protective aprons, gloves and goggles are provided and all materials are included. At the end of the session, you’ll take home your one-of-a-kind batik creating as a lasting souvenir of your time at Graycliff.
